The Basketeers are a group of artists who gather each July at the John C. Campbell Folk School as a mixed media class. The catalog description is as follows:
Mixed Media This is a self-directed class for the practicing artist or craftsperson working in varied media, not just baskets. No instruction is provided, and you must bring all your own equipment and supplies. A good sense of humor is necessary. Project description must be submitted to class coordinator, Ida Palmer-Ball, to determine suitability due to limited space.
In July 2004, ten artists enrolled in the class. They came from Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina and New York. The following pursuits were represented: woodcarving, instrument making, quilting, dressmaking, dyeing, felted knits,, altered books and boxes, and photojournalism. Some friends joined in for the photo op. There is a great deal of sharing and many students participate in more than one craft, with humor being a constant. Join us the week of July 10, 2005 for another basketeer/mixed media week of crafts, fun and exhibits.
